Spelling Bee Winners

We conducted our class spelling bee today! All of the scholars worked very hard and should be proud of their participation in this event.
After many rounds of spelling, we are proud to announce that the winners of our 4A spelling bee are Elise and Abby. Elise will move on to compete in the school spelling bee with her 4th grade peers. Abby will attend as a runner up.
The school spelling bee is on Wednesday, January 9th at 6pm in the MPR. All are welcome to attend this event but only the 1st place winners from each section will perform in the school spelling bee.

Please reach out to Ms. Modisett (bmodisett@archwayarete.org), Arete's Spelling Bee Coordinator, with any questions or concerns.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Week 6 News

Greeting Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing weekend before the holiday season kicks into full swing. I am especially looking forward to this week because I am getting married on Saturday, the 24th. I have included a picture of my fiancé and I. Mr. Otto is a teacher at Arete Prep and has had the privilege of teaching some of our 4th graders' siblings in 6th and 7th grade. Sam Otto and I met a couple years ago while attending college in Minnesota. While I traveled leading family bike tours throughout the world, Sam began his teaching career. It is only recent that we have lived in the same city for more than a month at a time. We are looking forward to starting a new chapter in our lives together. My name will be changing after Thanksgiving break to Mrs. Otto, although my email will remain the same until the end of the year.

Please note that I will be gone the following Monday - Wednesday (26th - 28th). Sam and I will be spending time with our out-of-town family and be taking a quick trip up to Flagstaff. Mrs. Arnold will be subbing for me. Please copy Mrs. Arnold on emails as she may be quicker to respond: larnold@archwayarete.org.

Homework Survey:
In an effort to provide a fruitful homework experience for our scholars, we rely on the feedback of our families. Parents, please share your feedback by completing this homework survey at your earliest convenience.

Grade Reports:
I'll be emailing grade reports tomorrow (Monday). Please review these with your child. There are a number of students who have a D and/or F because of missing homework, quizzes, and tests. Some of this is due to your child being absent. Any missing quiz or test can be made up without any penalty. Others have missing assignments without an excuse. These assignments should be turned in as soon as possible. Late work will receive a grade of 80% of its value.

Week 5 News

Greetings Families,

This week will be a little out of the ordinary due to Europe project presentations and not having school Monday. I have included schedules regarding the Europe project presentations. Scholars were told what day they were presenting a couple weeks ago; therefore, this should not be totally new information.

Grade Reports:
Grade reports are being sent out today via email. Some of our scholars are missing quite a few assignments. Please check with them this weekend to see if they are lost or misplaced. For the last two weeks, a couple scholars each day have mentioned forgetting or losing their homework. It is so important to hold our students accountable for their lost or missing work.

If your child received a low grade in a category named homework or unit reviews, it is probable that they did not complete their unit review or homework when it was assigned.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Khan Academy:
There will be no Khan Academy during Weeks 5 or 6, due to Europe presentations and Thanksgiving break.

Math Tutoring:
This week math tutoring will resume as normal, both Wednesday and Thursday after school.

History Projects:
The Europe Projects are due this upcoming week! It brings us great joy to hear about the amount of effort and enthusiasm our scholars have already invested in this project. There are no presentations on Tuesday; however, the research packets and essays are due Tuesday for all scholars.

If your child is planning on bringing a food item that must be refrigerated or warmed up, please send us an email. Please refrain from purchasing anything that has been contaminated with nuts. We will be unable to eat the item in our classroom due to severe nut allergies.

Feel free to stop by during your scholar's presentation if you are able and willing to make it! If you plan on attending, please send us an email so that we can let the front office know.

Quarter 2 Week 4 News

This past weekend, my sister threw me a bridal shower in California. The weekend was full of a lot of driving, laughter, joy, and catching up with old friends. My fiancé and I are getting married in 19 days. November is a very exciting time for us! For those of you who haven't had the privilege of meeting my fiancé, he is one of the 6th and 7th grade math teachers on the Preparatory side.

Remember to check the homework tab for this week's homework!
