Greetings Families,
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to visit with Mrs. Arnold and me. It was great to reconnect with all of you a couple weeks ago.
Mrs. Arnold and I will be following up with you regarding various questions asked throughout our conferences. If you are expecting an email in regards to a particular grade or something we discussed in our meeting and you do not hear from us by the end of the week, please reach out to us. We're thankful for your understanding.
Homework:
Each week our aim is that our scholars would be spending around 50-70 minutes on homework. Some of you expressed that your child isn't coming home with much homework at all. For these scholars our goal is to have them slow down, produce quality work, and design homework time to include studying for Science, History, and Roots.
On the other hand, there are some scholars who take over the recommended amount. We encourage these parents to prioritize certain homework and cut it off when it takes over 70 minutes. For example, if your child is taking over the recommended amount because they have spent 30 minutes catching up on studying roots they may not finish their math assignment. Our goal is to put the regular subjects as the priority. For example, Math, Spalding, History and Science should be completed before trying to study Roots or Poetry.
If your child is unable to accomplish part of their homework, please send in a note or an email. There will be no penalty or negative impact on your child or their grade. Your child will just be excused for what they didn't finish.
Last week, we saw an unfortunate decline in our scholars' homework being turned in. Please review the grade reports via email to see if your child is missing assignments. If your child has been absent, it might show that they have missing work, as well. Students who were absent will not be penalized with a late grade when they turn their homework in.
Daily Planner:
Our scholars have time every day to copy down their assignments from the board and ask questions. If you are consistently not seeing your child's planner filled out, please have a conversation with them about it. Then, let us know that this is becoming an issue. It is their responsibility to record the information in the planners. However, we are able to intervene.
Europe Project Due Dates:
Due to not having school on Monday, November 12th. The project is due the next day on November 13th.
FAQ's:
- What is the format for the 3-paragraph essay? Scholars should use what they have learned in 3rd grade to format their essay. We will learn about essay writing later in the year. Students will not be penalized for their formatting. The goal of the 3 paragraph essay is to share the information they have learned throughout the project.
- When will I know when my child is presenting their project? Students recorded their presentation date in their planners last week.
- When are the essays and packet due? Tuesday, November 13th.
- When is the trifold due? Day of Presentation
- When should I bring in my visual due? Day of Presentation
- Does our country's food have to be store bought? No, for this presentation you may prepare a food item at home to bring in.
*Keep in mind that our classroom is a nut-free room. Items should be free of all nuts and cross contamination. Additionally, we request that the ingredients are all listed and brought to school with the food item. If you are unsure, email us.
